Are you wanting to get stronger to improve your performance? Or perhaps as you age you have noticed you just aren’t as strong as you used to be despite being active. Recent research shows that chiropractic adjustments can help increase muscle strength. Learn how you can get stronger with the help of chiropractic care.
In order for a muscle to get stronger the brain has to be able to send strong nerve signals to it so it can fully contract. Regular exercise is needed to get muscles strong, but without strong nerve signals to the muscles they will never reach their maximum strength.
Proper movement and alignment of your joints in the body (spine, arms, and legs) is necessary to feed the brain strong nerve signals. In turn, the brain can send strong nerve signals to the muscle. I’ve written about this in numerous articles:

Chiropractic care, in the form of chiropractic adjustments, helps to create better movement and alignment in your joints which can help you get stronger.
I found six studies done since 2009 that looked at whether or not a SINGLE chiropractic adjustment (spinal manipulation) would strengthen either the upper or limb muscles. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) The conclusions are that a chiropractic adjustment can strengthen the muscles at least in the short-term (10 minutes up to at least 60 minutes). A research review and analysis of the research done in 2019 concluded the same thing. (7) Further studies are necessary to make the claim that chiropractic adjustments can help strengthen the muscles long-term. More on this in a moment.
One of these studies also made the remark that increases in muscle strength in HEALTHY people (those without injuries) vs. NON-HEALTHY people (those with an injury or functional problem) could be less after chiropractic adjustments. (4) The researchers stated, “..it is possible that they (HEALTHY people) did not have the capacity to allow for large changes…” I have been a chiropractor since 1995 and I would have to echo these remarks. I have also observed larger increases in muscle strength after adjusting patients who have some type of health issue that is acute or chronic.
A “health issue” can show up on someone as obvious pain or other symptom(s) or it may show up as more subtle signs or symptoms such as:
- numbness or tingling
- muscle tightness or fatigue
- general fatigue
- problems focussing or brain fog
- poor posture
I have observed when chiropractic care extends beyond a SINGLE session you can get stronger long-term. If regular chiropractic care is used by a patient to help keep their spine (posture and alignment) and nervous system working at peak level, their muscle strength tends to follow suit. Patients can get stronger and can stay stronger with regular chiropractic care.

The potential for chiropractic care to help get patients stronger has huge implications in regards to sports performance, muscle rehabilitation, and injury prevention. Furthermore, as you age, regular chiropractic care can help keep you more active so you can carry on with hobbies, daily chores, and physical activities you enjoy.

Summary
You have the potential to get stronger and stay stronger with regular chiropractic care. Whether you are a serious athlete or just want to carry on with daily chores or activities you enjoy, regular chiropractic care can help you. Why not give it a try?
