Tinnitus is a common condition that affects millions of people around the world. Tinnitus is ringing in the ears or other noises in one or both ears. The ringing can range from a mild annoyance to a severe disruption of daily life. While there are many treatment options available for tinnitus, chiropractic care can provide a natural and safe alternative. In fact, I treated a patient recently with tinnitus and the outcome was positive. I will share his story at the end of this post. First, let’s explore chiropractic for tinnitus, how it works, and what to expect if you were to see a chiropractor.
Understanding tinnitus
Tinnitus can be caused by a variety of factors, such as exposure to loud noise, aging, ear infections, and more. It can manifest as ringing, buzzing, humming, or even clicking sounds in the ears. There are two types of tinnitus: subjective, which only the person affected can hear, and objective, which can be heard by others. Depending on the type and severity of tinnitus, different treatment options may be recommended, such as hearing aids, sound therapy, medication, and surgery.
Chiropractic for tinnitus: how it works
Chiropractic care can help relieve tinnitus symptoms by addressing misalignments in the spine and skull that may be affecting the nerves supplying the ears. By using specific adjustments, chiropractors can help restore proper alignment and improve nerve function. In turn, this can help alleviate tinnitus symptoms. The limited research shows chiropractic care can provide significant relief for tinnitus. (1, 2, 3) Regardless of the weak research, chiropractic care is a viable option for those seeking a safe and drug-free solution.
Benefits of chiropractic for tinnitus
One of the main benefits of chiropractic care for tinnitus is that it can provide long-lasting relief without the need for medication or surgery. Chiropractic care is a safe and natural alternative that can help improve overall health and wellness. By addressing the underlying causes of tinnitus, chiropractic care can not only alleviate symptoms but also improve overall quality of life. Patients who undergo chiropractic care for tinnitus often report reduced stress levels, improved sleep quality, and an increased ability to focus.
What to expect from chiropractic for tinnitus
Chiropractic treatment for tinnitus typically involves a series of appointments over a period of weeks or months. The number of appointments needed will depend on the severity of the condition and the individual patient’s response to treatment. Patients can expect to see improvement in their symptoms over time. As well, patients may also experience improved range of motion in their spine and an increase in their muscle strength. Potential risks and side effects of chiropractic care are rare but may include soreness or stiffness after treatment.
Here’s what to expect during a first visit with Edmonton chiropractor Dr. Dean Collins.
Chiropractic for tinnitus: a case study
A few weeks back I had an existing patient come in with tinnitus or ringing in the ears. Understandably, he was in a lot of distress because of it. Further, he had been been receiving a lot of negative feedback on the internet that it was going to be permanent. And on top of this he had not slept in three nights which created more anxiety and negativity.
However, during his research, he had come across a few positive comments regarding alternative solutions to tinnitus such as chiropractic care, acupuncture and meditation. It was these comments that brought him into see me.
His story turned out for the better. On his third visit to see me he came back a new man. The ringing in his ears was gone completely out of one ear and substantially reduced in the other. And he was sleeping well. As a result, his outlook on the situation improved dramatically.
The process I went through to determine what to adjust as well as his positive outcome inspired me to write this post. Please share this post with someone you know that may be struggling with tinnitus. Chiropractic care for tinnitus doesn’t always work, but it’s worth a try!
