Foods That Give You Energy

Do you wake up tired everyday feeling like you have to drink coffee to wake you up? Or do you find yourself yawning and struggle to keep your eyes open in the early to mid afternoon? Do you get grumpy, weak, and hungry if you haven’t ate in two or three hours? Are you overweight, tired, and sick? Do you wish you could have huge amounts of energy, strength and laser-like focus from the time you jump out of bed to the time you jump into bed at night? The quality of foods you eat will have a profound effect on your energy levels and overall health.

If you eat a lot of refined and packaged foods (i.e. breads, cereals, pasta, sugar) your energy levels will rise and fall regularly. Refined flour, sugar, and vegetable oils make up more than 50% of the total daily calories consumed by the average person in the industrial world today. This is a recipe not only for poor energy levels but is tied directly into the development of chronic illness. Poor energy levels and chronic illness go hand in hand. Chronic illnesses have been increasing since humans started farming (agricultural revolution). This includes but not limited to: obesity, heart disease and strokes, high blood pressure, arthritis, and hypothyroidism.

If you eat nutritious and natural foods (i.e. clean seafood, meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds) you will have high sustained energy levels. Our hunter and gatherer ancestors of over 10,000 years ago ate like this and so do modern day hunters and gatherers. Studies on these cultures show they are more lean, robust, and fit. They have better oxygen consumption, better vision, and stronger bones. All of this is tied into better energy levels. Unlike us, these cultures have far fewer chronic illnesses than we do in our Western culture.

If you want to increase your energy levels and get well and stay well than changing your eating habits to simulate how our ancestors of over 10,000 years ago is imperative.
