Edmonton Chiropractor Explains Chiropractic
by Dr. Dean Collins
Chiropractic is a healing art founded over a century ago. The art, science, and philosophy of Chiropractic focus on the health and function of the spine and nervous system in order to keep your body and mind healthy and functioning optimally.
Your nervous system (comprised of your brain, spinal cord and nerves) connects to every cell, tissue, and organ in your body and coordinates every mental and physical function including your ability to heal yourself. Your spinal cord acts as an "information super highway" transmitting nerve impulses between your brain and delicate nerves of your various body parts. Click here to see Nerve Chart
Your spine protects your spinal cord. Proper alignment and mobility of your spine are necessary for your brain and nerves to work optimally so you can function and heal optimally. When your nervous system and spine gets overloaded with stress (mental, physical, chemical, or electromagnetic) you lose mobility and alignment in the spine and the nerve signals to the brain get disrupted (subluxation - nerve interference and spinal misalignment). Consequently, your brain and nerves cannot function optimally and your body's ability to heal itself and function optimally is diminished. Over time you will develop health challenges/symptoms if the subluxations are not corrected. The solution would be to reestablish proper mobility/alignment to your spine and reestablish proper nerve input into your brain (correct the subluxations).
The chiropractic adjustments will correct your subluxations gradually, helping you to reach an optimal level of healing, function, and potential as a human being. Adjustments are catered to the individual and vary from light force applied to the spine to deeper manual techniques. In some cases, we also do soft tissue therapies and adjust the extremities (upper and/or lower limbs).
Although you don't need to have a specific health problem to see a chiropractor, chiropractic care can be effective for the following health conditions:
