Chiropractic Care for Headaches

Chiropractic_and_Headaches.JPGHeadaches are common, but they are not normal.  Headaches are simply another way your body communicates to you that it is not functioning properly and that you better do something about it or it will up the ante.  And headaches are not the result of a lack of Tylenol or Aspirin.  Our bodies don't even produce Tylenol or Aspirin naturally and are therefore considered a chemical toxin in the body.  Although taking drugs can help alleviate headaches they don't correct the underlying cause of the headache.  Taking drugs for headaches is like putting masking tape over top of the engine light on your dashboard in your car if something is wrong with the engine rather than fixing the cause of the problem which is in the engine.

The most common causes of headaches are physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies or chemical toxins.  The ache we experience comes from the non-brain structures: blood vessels, membranes and cranial nerves in the brain and skull - when these are stretched, compressed, irritated, inflamed or infected, headaches often result. 

Chiropractic care offers a safe, natural, and drug-free approach to correct a patient's problems and not merely numb your body, ignoring the underlying cause.

In fact, there is strong scientific evidence that Chiropractic care is highly effective in the treatment of cervicogenic/tension headaches and migraines.  Primarily, chiropractors use a hands-on approach by giving patients Chiropractic adjustments.  Light or deep pressure/force is applied to specific bones of the spine in a precise direction to correct subluxations (nerve interference and spinal misalignment) to allow the body to function and heal itself optimally.  Very often subluxations in the neck irritate the nerves that travel into the head region causing a headache.

Chiropractors learn and use a variety of adjusting techniques so that they can perform safe and specific adjustments tailored to the patient's age, condition, and comfort level.  Some techniques involve the use of mechanical adjusting instruments like the activator or the arthrostim.
